ThetechniquewasinventedbysurrealistsandissimilartoanoldparlourgamecalledConsequencesinwhichplayerswriteinturnonasheetofpaper,foldittoconcealpartofthewriting,andthenpassittothenextplayerforafurthercontribution.SurrealismprincipalfounderAndréBretonreportedthatitstartedinfun,butbecameplayfulandeventuallyenriching.Bretonsaidthediversionstartedabout1925,butPierreReverdywrotethatitstartedmuchearlier,atleastbefore1918.

Inavariantnowknownaspictureconsequences,insteadofsentences,portionsofapersonweredrawn.

Laterthegamewasadaptedtodrawingandcollage,producingaresultsimilartochildren'sbooksinwhichthepageswerecutintothirds,thetopthirdpagesshowingtheheadofapersonoranimal,themiddlethirdthetorso,andthebottomthirdthelegs,withchildrenhavingtheabilityto"mixandmatch"byturningpages.Thegamehasalsobeenplayedwiththeusualorientationoffoldingsandfourorfewerpeople,andtherehavebeenexampleswiththegameplayedwithonlytwopeopleandthepaperbeingfoldedwidthwiseandbreadthwise,resultinginquarters.Ithasbeenplayedbymailingadrawingorcollage—inprogressivestagesofcompletion—totheplayers,andthisvariationisknownas"ExquisiteCorpsebyairmail",apparentlyregardlessofwhetherthegamefaresbyairmailornot.

故事虽显老套，但胜在气氛营造与吓人技巧的创新上，电影应用一种非常极端的方式告诫我们，我们应该去敬畏生命以及感激的活着。可惜的是往往我们总会被表面上的那些肮脏和形式和那种狂妄的殉道模式而感到悲愤和迷惘而忘却了去寻找其背后的真意。

没有太多触动内心的东西，也就是电影作为一个艺术最慑人的杀手锏，都只是浅尝辄止。然后继续到大结局，很讨巧，也侧面反映了能讲的故事已然不多。它没能在空下的时间里升华一下这个系列，而是用长时间的追逐动作戏来填充，不得不说是一点遗憾。当然，对于这一系列做到极致的类型片，我们不能苛求更多。

大段的音乐虽然不是影片的重点，但在部分场景中还是很好的烘托了气氛。出色的表演美丽的景色丝丝入扣的背景音乐，丰富的富于变幻的镜头语言构成这样一部优秀的影片。反复出现的某某画面极富有视觉冲击力、这部影片集中关注人的生存状态、人的命运以及厚重的历史沧桑感，因而产生了丰富多义的社会意蕴。
